How to Tell If You Should Rotate Your Tires

August 9th, 2022 by

Every vehicle should have its tires rotated regularly to prevent uneven wear. At family owned and operated Fernelius Toyota in Cheboygan, our team is always ready to service your car and rotate your tires if needed. But you may be asking yourself, how do you know when your tires need to be rotated? Whether you’re behind the wheel of a car, truck, SUV, or hybrid, the signs are the same:

  • Your vehicle is vibrating. Whether you’re on the highway or traveling down a street in the country, the ride of your car should be mostly smooth and comfortable. Unless you’re on a road that’s full of holes and bumps, you shouldn’t feel any major vibrations or shimmying while you’re driving. If you do, it’s a sign that at least one of your ties has uneven wear.
  • You’re losing air pressure. If there’s no obvious reason — like a puncture in your tire — losing air pressure could be a sign of uneven wear. It’s worth noting, however, that the tire that’s losing pressure is not necessarily the one that has uneven wear; it could be supporting more of the weight from another tire that is in bad shape. That’s why it’s important to bring your car in for service so that all four tires can be checked.
  • Uneven wear is visible. This is the most obvious sign; if you take a good look at your tires, you’ll notice if one or more are showing uneven wear. Your front tires will always wear down faster than the rear ones. Since the engine is the heaviest part of your vehicle, front tires bear most of the weight of the car.

If you can see that your front tires are more worn down, it’s time to make a service appointment with Fernelius Toyota to get those tires rotated
