Top 5 Items Every Car Owner Needs

At Fernelius Toyota, we don’t think of ourselves simply as a Toyota dealership. Our family-owned-and-operated business has been serving Northern Michigan since 2004, and we believe in building and maintaining relationships with our customers, whom we consider to be family. That’s why as you prepare for your summer road trips around Michigan, the Fernelius crew would like to remind you about five things you should always keep in your vehicle:

  • A spare tire, jack, and lug wrench: There are approximately seven tire punctures in the U.S. every second — that’s 220 million flat tires every year. Before you head out in your new Toyota, make sure your spare tire is inflated and ready to go. And of course, ensure that you’ve also packed a jack and a lug wrench, so you’re fully prepared if your car tire happens to be among one of those 220 million this year.
  • Jumper cables: Regular car batteries typically last three to five years, with hybrid batteries usually maxing out at about 100,000 miles. Dead batteries are common, and if you need a jump when you’re running late or on your way to an important event, searching for jumper cables is the last thing you want to be doing. Make sure you have a set in your trunk, just in case.
  • A first aid kit: This is not something car owners often think of, but keeping a first aid kit in your Toyota could save your life in the event of an emergency. Accidents happen, and a well-stocked kit could be just what you need if you’re in danger and waiting for help to arrive. Always keep an emergency kit in your car, and be sure to check it annually to ensure everything is in working order and not expired.
